Coronavirus infections in India continued to rise at the fastest pace in the world even as new case additions showed some signs of slowing down.

The country added over 85,000 new cases in a matter of 24 hours taking the total tally to just over the 59-lakh-mark in Asia’s third-largest economy, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Sept. 26.

Manish Sisodia's Condition Improves

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's condition has further improved, a day after he was administered convalescent plasma therapy. He is likely to be shifted from the ICU to a normal ward, PTI quoted an official as saying. Sisodia is suffering from Covid-19 and dengue.

He is currently undergoing treatment at Max hospital, Saket, where he was admitted on Thursday evening after a falling blood platelet count and low oxygen level.

The 48-year-old AAP leader had tested positive for Covid-19 on September 14 and was under home isolation. On Wednesday, he was admitted to the LNJP Hospital for treatment.

NPPA Caps Price Of Liquid Medical Oxygen, Medical Oxygen Cylinders

The National Drug Pricing Regulator (NPPA) has caped the price of medical oxygen cylinders and liquid medical oxygen for six months, the government said on Saturday.

The present situation of Covid-19 has resulted in increased demand of medical oxygen up to almost four times from 750 MT per day to around 2,800 MT per day, PTI reported, quoting from a statement by the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers.

NPPA decided "to cap the ex-factory price of LMO at manufacturers end at Rs 15.22/cubic metre (CUM) exclusive of GST; and to further cap the ex-factory cost of medical oxygen cylinder at filler end at Rs 25.71/CUM exclusive of GST in suppression of the existing ceiling price of Rs 17.49/CUM, subject to transportation cost fixation at state level, for six months," the statement said.

India's Recovery Rate Stands At 82%

The total number of recoveries from Covid-19 rose to 48.49 lakh on Saturday with 93,420 patients recuperating from the disease in a day which is more than the number of fresh cases recorded during the same period, the union health ministry said.

With the recovery rate rising to 82.14%, the ministry said India has maintained its top global ranking in total recoveries with such high successive single-day numbers.

"As India records more recoveries than new cases, the gap between recovered and active cases is continuously widening. The recoveries are more than five times the active cases of coronavirus infection," it said.

The recovered cases exceed the active cases (9,60,969) by nearly 39 lakh.

"This has also ensured that active cases account for merely 16.28% of the total caseload. This has sustained on its steady declining path," the ministry said.
