Coronavirus India Updates: Active Cases Stagnate As Total Tally Tops 91 Lakh

India’s coronavirus outbreak is showing signs of resurgence soon after a busy festive season as the country’s caseload crossed the 91-lakh-mark.
India reported 44,059 new cases in 24 hours, taking the total tally near 91.4 lakh in the world’s second-worst infected country, according to the Health Ministry’s update as of 8 a.m. on Nov. 23. That includes over 85.6 lakh recoveries and more than 1.33 lakh deaths.
Active cases hover below 4.5 lakh, after falling from a peak of over 10 lakh in mid-September, as new infections outpace recoveries.

Rising Covid cases have prompted some state governments to impose partial restrictions again. In Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara cities a night curfew has been imposed where no movement is allowed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
A similar curfew has been put in place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. in Madhya Pradesh's Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Vidisha and Ratlam.
Mumbai has decided to keep schools shut till Dec. 31, 2020 as it anticipates another wave of infections. Schools have been allowed to open for classes 9-12 on a voluntary basis from Nov. 23 in the rest of Maharashtra.

Vaccinations against Covid-19 in the U.S. will “hopefully” start in less than three weeks, according to the head of the federal government’s programme to accelerate a vaccine. China reported sporadic local cases in Tianjin, Shanghai and Inner Mongolia, raising concerns that the virus is popping up again.
The U.K. will announce on Monday that quarantine restrictions will ease in time for Christmas, The Telegraph reported, while the French government plans a three-phase easing of lockdown measures from December. Hong Kong and Singapore scrapped a travel bubble after cases spiked.
Globally, Covid-19 cases crossed 58.5 million with more than 1.39 million dead.
