Rewari-Madar Section Of Western DFC To Benefit Industries: All You Need To Know
Indian Railways' new 306 km long Rewari-Madar section of the western dedicated freight corridor was inaugurated on Thursday, January 7. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the freight corridor section through virtual conference and also flagged off the world's first Double Stack Long Haul Container Train that is 1.5 kilometre long, between New Ateli and New Kishangarh. The Rewari-Madar section of the western dedicated freight corridor is situated in the states of Haryana (almost 79 kilometres, in the districts of Mahendragarh and Rewari) and Rajasthan (around 227 kilometres, in the districts of Jaipur, Nagaur, Ajmer, Alwar, Sikar). According to a statement released by the Railway Ministry, the opening of this stretch will benefit various industries in Narnaul, Rewari – Manesar, Kishangarh as well as Phulera areas of Rajasthan and Haryana and will also enable efficient usage of the container depot of CONCOR at Kathuwas. The freight corridor section will also ensure connectivity with the western ports of Pipavav, Kandla, Mundhra, and Dahej located in Gujarat.
With the inauguration of the Rewari-Madar section, seamless connectivity between the western and eastern dedicated freight corridor will be achieved, said the railway authorities. Earlier, the 351-km long Bhaupur- Khurja section of the eastern dedicated freight corridor was inaugurated on December 29, 2020.
The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited or DFCCIL is carrying out the construction of 3,342-km long eastern and western DFC for the movement of freight trains. DFCCIL will operate freight trains at a maximum speed of 100 km per hour as against the current maximum speed of 75 km per hour, whereas the average speed of freight trains will also be increased from the existing speed of 26 km per hour to 70 km per hour on the freight corridor.
