Tata Sons has committed Rs 1,000 crore for supporting the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
The salt-to-software conglomerate's pledge came soon after its majority shareholder Tata Trusts said it will commit Rs 500 crore towards personal protective equipment, respiratory systems, testing kits, modular treatment facilities and training of health workers.
“We will work together with the Tata Trusts and our Chairman Emeritus Mr. [Ratan] Tata and would be fully supporting their initiatives, and work in a collaborative manner to bring the full expertise of the group,” Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said in a media statement. “In addition to the initiatives articulated by Tata Trusts, we are also bringing in the ventilators necessary and are gearing up to manufacture the same soon in India.”
Tata Group joins a growing list of private Indian companies which have stepped in to support the country's fight against the new coronavirus pandemic that has stalled trade and economy. Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Ltd., automaker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Maruti Suzuki Ltd., Vedanta Ltd.'s Anil Agarwal and Hyundai India, among others, have all pledged support either through monetary contributions or through scaling up production and import of necessary items.
