Shah Rukh Khan Closes in On More Box-Office Records With Happy New Year

Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Happy New Year inched closer to the Rs 200 crore club at the box-office with trade website Koimoi.com pegging its domestic collection (net) at Rs 196.30 crore.

In its third week, Happy New Year is still running at around 800-900 screens and it is expected to hit the Rs 200 crore mark by Monday, the website said in a report.

Happy New Year will be Shah Rukh's second film to make it to the Rs 200 crore club (domestic net collections) after Chennai Express, adds the report.

In terms of gross collection, Happy New Year has pulled in Rs 359.50 worldwide, boosted by its strong response in overseas markets, says the report. This makes Happy New Year the sixth highest Bollywood grosser overall.

Released on October 24, Happy New Year also set new box-office records for first day as well as opening week collections. Produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Farah Khan, Happy New Year is a heist drama.

Speaking on the success of the film, Red Chillies Entertainment CEO Venky Mysore had earlier said, "Happy New Year has set new benchmark. We are grateful for the ongoing love and support of audience."

Happy New Year also features Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Sonu Sood, and Vivaan Shah. (With Agency Inputs)
