NTPC's 1,320 MW Bangladesh Project Likely to be Ready by Dec 2018

The 1,320 MW Maitree super thermal power project in Bangladesh, being developed by state-owned NTPC through a joint venture, is expected to start electricity generation by December 2018.

The plant is to be implemented by Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Ltd (BIFPCL) - an equal joint venture between NTPC and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB).

It would have two units, each having 660 MW generation capacity, fired by coal.

During the meeting of BIFCL's board today in Kolkata, the members emphasised the need to commission the unit of the project by December, 2018, according to a statement issued by NTPC.

The meeting, chaired by Bangladesh Power Secretary Monowar Islam, was attended by NTPC Chairman and Managing Director Arup Roy Choudhury.

BIFPCL was incorporated in Bangladesh back in October 2011.
