Maruti Suzuki Sales Drop 6.7% In 2020-21, 1.67 Lakh Units Sold In March
Maruti Suzuki reported its monthly auto sales on Thursday, April 1, with total sales of 1.67 lakh units in March, up almost 99 per cent compared to 83,792 units in the corresponding month last year. In a statement, the country's largest carmaker stated that the domestic sales in financial year 2019-20 declined 18 per cent and sales in fiscal 2020-21 were impacted due to COVID-19. Maruti Suzuki's total sales, including domestic and export, dropped 6.7 per cent in financial year 2020-21, compared to the earlier fiscal of 2019-20.
In March 2020, Maruti Suzuki's domestic sales dropped 48 per cent due to COVID-19 disruptions, and the domestic sales reported last month recovered to March 2019 levels. 24,653 units of mini passenger vehicles including Alto, S-Presso were sold last month, compared to 15,988 units in the same month last year.
82,201 units of compact passenger vehicles including WagonR, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire, Tour S were sold last month, compared to 40,519 units in the corresponding month last year. 1,628 units of mid-sized Ciaz were sold in March 2021, compared to 1,863 units sold in the same month last year. Overall, the total domestic sales, including passenger vehicle sales and light commercial vehicles stood at 149,518 units last month, compared to 76,976 units in the year-ago period.
On Thursday, Maruti Suzuki settled 0.92 per cent higher at Rs 6922.60 on the BSE.
