Kamal Nath to lead India delegation at Davos

Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath will lead the Indian delegation to the annual meet of the World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos, Switzerland, starting next week.

The meeting is held every year in last week of January at this alpine resort town of Switzerland, WEF has over the years emerged as a major congregation of the rich and the powerful from across the world, especially corporate leaders, heads of state and policymakers.

This year's meeting will open on January 22 and continue till January 27. Tomorrow, the WEF will formally announce in Geneva the agenda for the event, whose theme will be 'resilient dynamism'.

The Indian government delegation, to be led by Kamal Nath, would also comprise of commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma, Heavy industries and public enterprises minister Praful Patel and power minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.

The Indian corporate leaders expected to attend the meeting include Anand Mahindra, Azim Premji, Sunil Mittal, Rahul Bajaj, Adi Godrej, Sunil Munjal, as also top executives of IT majors like TCS, Infosys and Mahindra Satyam.

Those who have been invited for the meet also include Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Reliance Industries group chairman Mukesh Ambani, BJP chief Nitin Gadkari, ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar and NRI steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal. 

Besides, the meeting will be attended by hundreds of corporate, political and regulatory leaders from across the world, among others.

The Davos meeting will be co-chaired by Muhtar Kent (chief of beverage giant Coca-Cola), Frederico Curado (president and CEO, Embraer), Huguette Labelle (chair of Transparency International, Germany), Andrew Liveris (Dow Chemical chairman and CEO), Atsutoshi Nishida (Toshiba Corporation chairman) and Axel Weber (chairman of UBS).
