FSIB To Interview Candidates For SBI Chairman Post On Tuesday

According to convention, SBI, the nation's largest lender, selects the chairman from a pool of serving managing directors.

FSIB, the headhunter for directors of state-owned banks and financial institutions, is scheduled to interview eligible candidates for the post of State Bank of India's chairman on Tuesday, according to people with knowledge about the matter.

The Financial Services Institutions Bureau will interview the eligible Managing Directors of the bank to select a replacement for Dinesh Khara, who will be superannuating on Aug. 28, when he turns 63, the upper age limit for the SBI Chairman position.

According to convention, SBI, the nation's largest lender, selects the chairman from a pool of serving managing directors.

FSIB would recommend the name, and the final decision would be taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bhanu Pratap Sharma, a former secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training, heads the FSIB. The government-appointed selection panel is composed of the Financial Services Secretary, the Department of Public Enterprises Secretary, and an RBI Deputy Governor.

Other members of the headhunter are Animesh Chauhan, former chairman and managing director of the erstwhile Oriental Bank of Commerce; RBI's ex-executive director Deepak Singhal; and Shailendra Bhandari, former managing director of the erstwhile ING Vysya Bank.
