Cyrus Mistry, former chairman of Tata Sons and scion of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, was killed in a car accident near Mumbai on Sunday. He was 54.

The car, a Mercedes, crashed into a divider near Charoti on a bridge around 3.15 p.m. in Maharashtra's Palghar district, according to the police. There were four people in the vehicle, of which two, including Mistry, died on the spot. The other deceased person has been identified as Jahangir Binshah Pandole.

The injured—identified as Anahita Pandole, a top doctor at Breach Candy Hospital; and Darius Pandole, the managing director and chief executive officer of JM Financial Private Equity—have been shifted to a hospital.

Mistry was the younger son of Pallonji Mistry, the founder of the SP Group. Cyrus Mistry served as the chairman of Tata Sons, the parent of Tata Group, before he was ousted in 2016.

After his exit from Tata Sons, he set up Mistry Ventures LLP along with elder brother Shapoor Mistry. The firm operates as a venture capital firm focused on providing seed and early-stage and growth capital to startups across the globe.

Cyrus Mistry is survived by his wife Rohiqa and their two sons.
