Burnpur plant's Rs 16,000 crore modernisation nearing completion: SAIL

New Delhi:

State-run Steel Authority of India (SAIL) today said modernisation of its IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) at Burnpur, undertaken at an investment of Rs 16,000 crore, is nearing completion.

"SAIL ISP is being upgraded and modernised with a total cost of over Rs 16,000 crore and the plant will produce 2.9 million tonnes of Hot Metal after completion...modernisation & expansion work of ISP which is in the last mile of its integrated commissioning," the company said in a statement.

SAIL chief C S Verma today reviewed the modernization measures there accompanied by director (Technical) SS Mohanty and Director (Projects & Business Planning) TS Suresh.

The major facilities at the plant include a New 7 metre tall Coke Oven Battery (COB); two Sinter Machines; a new Blast Furnace, Universal Section Mill, Wire Rod and Bar Mill. Taking stock of the progress SAIL chief exhorted employees to work on war footing for early commissioning and fast stabilisation of units which have commenced production.

Several units, set up at a cost of about Rs 5,000 crore there have commenced production, the company said.
