Indian automakers are announcing their August sales figures on Friday. Auto dispatches to dealerships got a boost in August as companies looked to build up inventory amid expectations of higher sales during the ongoing festival period. Bajaj Auto Ltd.'s total two-wheeler sales fell 20% year-on-year to 2.85 lakh units in August as the domestic dispatches fell nearly one-third. The exports saw a reversal in trend with a growth of 2% in August.
TVS Motor Co Ltd.'s total two-wheeler sales grew 5% to 3.32 lakh units helped by the strong dispatches in the domestic market even as exports saw a decline.
The two-wheeler sales rose 7% to 2.57 lakh units in the domestic market, while exports fell nearly 1% to 75,491 units.
Within the two-wheeler segment, scooter sales rose 17% led by electric scooter iQube. The motorcycle sales fell 2.6% to 1.53 lakh units.
Ashok Leyland Ltd.'s dispatches to dealerships 10% to 15,576 units as medium and heavy commercial vehicles continued to offset the weakness in the light commercial vehicle category.
Sales Highlights (YoY):
Domestic sales rise 9% to 14,545 units.
Sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles rose 17% to 9,013 units.
Light commercial vehicle sales fall 2% to 5,532 units.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.'s passenger vehicle dispatches rose 25% year-on-year to 37,270 units, clocking highest-ever monthly dispatches yet again as the company continues to scale-up production.
"Despite a 9% monsoon deficit at end of August, Kharif sowing is largely on track and has shown an improvement over last year for all key crops except pulses," Hemant Sikka, president of farm equipment sector at M&M, said in a statement.

Sales of medium duty light commercial vehicles rose 11% to 18,768 units.

Domestic two-wheeler sales fell 31% to 1.61 lakh units.
Escorts Kubota Ltd.'s overall dispatches to dealerships fell 8.5% year-on-year to 5,593 units as deficient monsoon in some parts of the country.
"With other macro-economic factors remaining intact, if monsoon catches up in September in these regions , tractor demand may witness good pick up in the upcoming festive months," the company said in a statement.
