Amazon Names Matt Garman As AWS CEO To Replace Adam Selipsky

Amazon Names Matt Garman As AWS CEO To Replace Adam Selipsky
Adam Selipsky

Amazon.com Inc.'s cloud-computing division chief Adam Selipsky is stepping down, making way for Matt Garman, the unit's top sales and marketing executive.

Selipsky, who has led Amazon Web Services since 2021, will step down next month “to move onto his next challenge,” Amazon Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy said in an email to employees on Tuesday. He will be succeeded by Garman, effective June 3.

The cloud division, which accounts for most of Amazon's profit, posted the strongest sales growth in a year last quarter, a sign that AWS is recovering from a slump as businesses resume spending on technology projects, including artificial intelligence services.

“I'd like to thank Adam for everything he's done to lead AWS over the past three years,” Jassy said in a statement. “He took over in the middle of the pandemic, which presented a wide array of leadership and business challenges.”

The shares were little changed as the markets opened in New York.
