Adani Green Energy To Invest Over Rs 8,348 Crore In Sri Lanka's Wind Power Projects

The Adani Group is investing over Rs 8,348 crore in Sri Lanka to develop wind power projects, which will be the country's largest renewable energy initiative and its most substantial power venture to date.

Adani Green Energy Ltd. will set up two wind farms in Sri Lanka's Mannar town and Pooneryn village with a total installed capacity of 484 megawatts at an investment of around Rs 6,177 crore. These wind farms-related infrastructure that would transmit electricity to consumption centres will receive further investments of over Rs 2,407 crore.

The Adani Group is investing over Rs 8,348 crore in Sri Lanka to develop wind power projects, which will be the country's largest renewable energy initiative and its most substantial power venture to date. This investment represents Sri Lanka's largest foreign direct investment and marks a significant milestone in the nation's energy sector.

In May 2024, Adani Green Energy Ltd. and the Sri Lankan government entered a 20-year power-purchase deal to develop two wind power stations in the country's northern provinces of Mannar and Punarin, according to a report by the official news portal.

The renewable energy firm of the port-to-power conglomerate had received approval in February last year to install wind power plants in Sri Lanka for $442 million and develop 350-megawatt electricity to the national grid.
